The city is located in the south-central part of the country, nestled in a mountain valley called Valle de la Ermita (English: Hermitage Valley). In 2012, it had a population of 2,110,100.[2][3] Guatemala City is also the capital of the local Municipality of Guatemala and of the Guatemala Department.
